[News] AppleTV aka "LowTide" App Ported To iPod Touch 4G
Wednesday, September 29, 2010
Posted by skygoat76 in news
Dustin Howett, developer of Safari Download Manager, has ported the recently discovered LowTide app, which is basically the Apple TV application, to the iPod Touch 4G.
Clearly not everything is going to work. AppleTV was never meant to be used on our iDevices, so things like touch response and resolution will be out-of-whack, but I'm sure after some tweaking we may possibly see something more usable here. As interesting as this sounds, its no easy task to maintain and modifying some of the data to get the app to work can be rather risky.
This port is NOT available for download as of yet, and the requirements to do so can be painful, even Dustin says it's not entirely a good idea. Chances are, you'll end up needing to restore your device after playing around with it. Nontheless, you just might see AppleTV coming to your iDevice in the near future. Who knows...

Fun fact: The AppleTV2,1 FrontRow app is NOT signed. It lacks any trace of LC_CODE_SIGNATURE, and gets Killed immediately.[News] iOS 4.2 Beta 2 and iTunes 10.1 Beta Released to Developers

Posted by skygoat76 in news
The newest build of iOS 4.2, 8C5101c, has been released by Apple to it's registered developers, and weighs in at 521MB for our beloved iDevices. Staying on target for the release, it appears that there have been a few additions and tweaks to the latest release.
In particular, the AirPrint features have been detailed a little bit further stating new compatible printer models from the HP Photosmart family, also including a note that iOS 4.2 devices can print directly to printers that have been shared through a Mac or a PC (go figure).
However the notes do state that you will be required to have Mac OS X 10.6.5 beta (available for developers). if your on a Mac or Printer shared through iTunes 10.1 Beta (also available on the iOS developer page) for a PC. So obviously we can expect iTunes 10.1 and Mac OS X 10.6.5 released along with iOS 4.2.
There has also been a new addition to the way that multitasking presents itself when switching through the apps.
The AppStore has finally gained the lovely GameCenter icon, allowing for the same easy browsing we've had on iTunes, indicating which games are compatible with the new Game Center app.
This firmware is of course also compatible with the iPhone (3G, 3GS, 4), iPod Touch (2nd, 3rd, 4th gen) and the iPad. Other than that, keep your eyes peeled for any further updates to whats packed inside the new beta. @ih8sn0w tweeted "iOS 4.2 Beta expires Friday October 29,2010."
As usual, if your not a developer, and want to keep your jailbreak/unlock, DO NOT USE THIS FIRMWARE. Should I remind you to backup your SHSH blobs?
As for iTunes 10.1 not much to report, except some new additions to Ping.

[News] iPhone Dev-Team Demos SHAtter Jailbreak for iOS 4.1 *Video*
Tuesday, September 28, 2010
Posted by skygoat76 in news
The iPhone Dev-Team has published a video demonstrating the upcoming SHAtter jailbreak for iOS 4.1.
The exploit (and payload) was developed by @pod2g a few months after @p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team discovered the crash. That team is hard at work bringing you a brand new tool to make use of the exploit. It’s not the sort of thing that can be developed overnight so please be patient while waiting for any announcements from them.
In the meantime, we’ve put @pod2g’s exploit into a beta version of PwnageTool to test the waters. The SHAtter exploit was enough to convince the iPod touch 4G to restore to our custom IPSW. The successful result is shown below!
Although PwnageTool was a useful first test of a full iPod 4G jailbreak via SHAtter, it’s really overkill compared to the faster tools being developed. Its main use in PwnageTool will be for those with iPhone4’s, to allow updates while preserving the baseband and ultrasn0w carrier unlock. In any event, this is another exciting time for iPhone and iPod touch users…the cat and mouse game continues!
The PwnageTool beta is for internal testing only. You can take a look at the video demonstration below...

[How-To] Enable GameCenter and HDR Photos on your iPhone 3G/3GS *Update*
Tuesday, September 28, 2010
For both HDR and GameCenter
You will need to be jailbroken on the iOS 4.1 firmware to continue.
There is no Game Center application on the iPhone 3G! You have to copy it the Game Center App by yourself to get Game Center working. This just enables the function! Enables HDR images in the camera app for the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3Gs and GameCenter for the iPhone 3G via WinterBoard. Please note: This package has 3 things to enable. HDR, GameCenter and both. Don't use HDR and the GameCenter enabler, because it won't work. Use the 3rd enabler (HDR/GameCenter enabler) for both.
Step One
Press to launch Cydia from your Springboard.
Step Two
Press the Sections tab at the bottom of the screen.
Step Three
Press to select Tweaks from the list of Sections.
Step Four
Press to choose HDR/GameCenter Enabler from the list of Packages.
Step Five
Press the Install button at the top right of the screen.
Step Six
Press the Confirm button to begin installation.
Step Seven
Once installation has completed successfully click the large Reboot Device button.
Only for HDR Photos
First of all, you have to know what the hell you’re doing, if you don’t, don’t attempt it. Once the information is live, there will probably be a Cydia package that pops up sooner or later that will do it for you, just be patient. This is also only for iOS 4.1, enabling HDR on <4.1 isn’t possible, at least not at this time.
Your device must be jailbroken with OpenSSH installed to do this procedure
- Make sure you have installed OpenSSH through Cydia. When it’s installed, SSH into your device (I recommend you also use the “passwd” command to change your password from the default “alpine”)
- If you have an iPhone 3G, grab the file located at /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist
- If you have an iPhone 3GS, grab the file located at /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N88AP.plist
- Add a key named “hdr-image-capture” with a boolean value of “true” to the “capabilities” section of this property list
- Save it, and use SSH to replace the copy on the device with your modified version
- Restart SpringBoard, or just reboot your device. You should now have access to the HDR setting in the camera application.
Sidebar: No, iOS 4.1 doesn’t have a jailbreak out yet, so don’t ask me for it; I’m simply informing you of the steps for when the jailbreak is released.

[News] IPA God : Install Cracked Apps without a Jailbroken iDevice *DEAD*
Tuesday, September 21, 2010
Posted by skygoat76 in news
Here’s the deal. A few people from iModZone are developing an application called “IPA God”. We have some exclusive screenshots after the jump. Basically, this app, distributed via ad-hoc, will be able to install cracked applications on a non-jailbroken device running iOS 4.0 or later. How does it work? We have some details, as well as info on who to blame.
This method has been confirmed by chpwn on IRC and has sort of been pondered by ih8sn0w. According to chpwn, Apple, in 4.0, had added “this thing”, and it lets you create certain files on the filesystem. Once hackers found out about that, people have been doing crazy things. It works similarly to how AppSync works. The scary part? It works. People who happen to have “IPA God” confirm that it does work as intended. chpwn also believes that it may be a left over from some testing that Apple had done.
So who’s to blame? Apple. They seem to be forgetting a lot of little things when it comes to security. Because of this, people will be able to install cracked applications without even being jailbroken. People will be paying the developers of “IPA God” a bit of money to get their UDID registered so that they can install this app onto their device.
A lot of app store developers are against jailbreaking, because you can effortlessly install their applications for free. Now, you can do the same thing without even being jailbroken.
